The Experience
Lake County sits in the heart of the Colorado Rockies at over 11,000 feet. That means thinner air, clearer skies, and a pace of life that slows down the moment you turn off the main road. Skinner Hut is where you come when you want that feeling without the hassle of a full wilderness expedition.
Dozens of hiking and backpacking routes start within minutes. Winter turns the area into a cross-country skiing and snowshoeing playground.
No front desk, no paperwork — just genuine, low-key service from people who actually live here and know the area.
Spring wildflowers, summer alpine lakes, fall aspen gold, and winter's deep silence — every season reveals a different side of the pass.
At 11,480 feet with minimal light pollution, the night sky here is something else entirely. Bring a blanket and a telescope if you like.
Location
We're situated along Hagerman Pass Road in Lake County, Colorado — a high-altitude community between Leadville and the Loveland area. The pass itself is one of the highest paved roads in North America, and our location puts you at the edge of some of the state's most accessible backcountry.
